Erik Fisher Football Dream Not So Dreamy After All
In the book Tangerine, our main character, Paul Fisher, plays soccer. His older brother, Erik Fisher, plays football. Well, it's more of the Erik Fisher Football Dream that counts the most. Paul's family mainly focuses on Erik and how he has his life brought out to him. Paul's parents feel the Saints have given them a son that was meant to be. While the book is focused on Paul's life, they bring football into it, which may get confusing to those who don't know how the game is played. The game of football is played with 50 players on a team and 11 on a field at a time. The team is split into different categories. there is the offensive category which includes the offensive players, there is a denffensive category which includes the deffensive players, and there are the kickers which include the punters and the kickers. The punters punt the ball at the beginning of every half, and punts the ball if a team decides to punt the ball instead of going for the fourth down, and the kickers kick the field goals. The players play on a field that is 120 yards long, and 53 yards, 1 foot wide. The object of the game is to score as many points as possible compared to the oposing team. You can score points in a few different ways. You can score points on a touchdown (6), a safety (2), an extra pooint after a touchdown occurs ( this could count as one or as two points), or a safety (3). There are four quarters in a game, and they are all 15 minutes long. There is a break between the first two quarters and last two quarters. This break is known as half time. The offensive team (the team with the ball), has 4 chances to exceed the ball 10 yards. Each time the deffensive team (the team without the ball), blocks the ball, or the offensive team makes a incomplete pass by missing the ball, the play is over and the offensive team adds a down to their tries. If the team doesn't accelerate the all 10 yards, the ball is handed over to the other team. If the team gets the ball accelerated by 10 yards in 4 downs, the plays will restart from one down, and they will have to try again until they can get the ball in the other team's endzone for a touchdown. On the fourth down, if the team never accelerated the amount they needed, they can either go for the down or punt the ball down the field for the other team to try to get the ball in the oposing team's endzone. After four downs, if the team didn't make the yardage, the ball is awarded to the other team. Players on the field must stay in bounds, which is inside the white lines on the field. There are oficials on a football field that direct the game. These officials call fouls and give penalties out. An official has three indications of a penalty. There is a bean bag and a yellow flag. If one penalty occurs, the official throws his yellow flag up, and if ifhe sees another penalty, he will either throw his bean bag or his black cap in the air.
